The Place
Deer Camp: More Than a Place
It starts in May, long before the first frost — clearing the road, opening the cabin, getting ready for a November that's still six months away.
Why May matters: the road in has to be cleared, the cabin opened and aired out, and the camp readied long before anyone thinks about a rifle. It's the part nobody films, but it's the part that makes November possible.
Then November arrives — the hunt, but also the meals cooked too big for the table, the fires that run too late, the stories told one too many times and somehow funnier each time.
Camp prep, every spring
Clearing the road in, opening the cabin, the first fire of the season.
Camp life, every fall
The hunt, the meals, the fires, the laughter that doesn't make it into any film.
