The Why
About MOmery
Every great tradition begins with a simple idea.
For Dave and Mary, it started with a quiet piece of land tucked away in the remote forests of northern Minnesota. Their dream wasn't to build a destination or create a retreat. They simply envisioned a place where they could boondock, unplug from everyday life, and enjoy the peace and solitude that only the Northwoods can provide.
Year after year, they returned.
With chainsaws, tractors, and plenty of determination, they bush-hogged trails, cleared brush, and slowly transformed the wilderness. They weren't entirely sure what the property would become—they simply knew it was worth the effort.
Then something unexpected happened.
Friends and family began showing up.
What started as a secluded campsite gradually became a gathering place where stories were shared around campfires, friendships grew stronger, and memories were made that would last a lifetime.
The camp itself evolved alongside those memories.
A simple makeshift privy became a real bathroom. An outdoor shower—fed by a 1,000-gallon water tank hauled in the back of a pickup truck—eventually gave way to modern comforts. Deer stands appeared throughout the woods, trails expanded, and the original MAS*H-style camp, warmed by nothing more than a wood stove, slowly became the foundation for the cabin that now welcomes so many.
Not every hunting season filled the freezer. Some years the woods seemed to outsmart even the most experienced hunters. There were cold mornings, empty tags, plenty of laughter, and countless stories told beside the fire while wildlife quietly reminded everyone who truly belonged in these woods.
But the hunt was never the real reason people returned.
People came for each other.
Over the years, family and friends have traveled from Minnesota, South Dakota, Kentucky, Texas, and beyond to spend time together—sharing meals, enjoying a favorite cigar, telling stories late into the night, exploring the woods, and celebrating the simple joy of being together far from the distractions of everyday life.
This website exists to preserve those moments.
MOmery is more than a collection of photographs and videos. It is a living archive of the people, traditions, adventures, laughter, and friendships that have made this little corner of Minnesota so special.
